The eighth scientific conference of the Rahma Medical Center

Under the patronage and presence of Her Excellency Mrs. Laila Solh Hamada, Vice President of Alwaleed Bin Talal Humanitarian Foundation, in cooperation with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), with the participation of the North Lebanese Order of physician, the Higher Institute of Doctor of Science and Technology, the Faculty of Public Health at the Lebanese University, RMC organized its eighth scientific conference entitled ” The right to health, education and protection as means to comprehensive social inclusion

The opening ceremony was attended by HE Mrs. Laila Solh Hamada, his Eminence the Mufti of Tripoli and the North Dr. Malik Al-Sha’ar, the Director General of the Ministry of Education, Prof. Fadi Yark represented by thr head of the Educational region in the North, Ms. Nahla Hamati, President of the Union of Arab Doctors Dr Omar Ayash, And Agriculture in the North Mr. Tawfiq Daboussi, Representative of UNICEF in Lebanon, Pirm Chand, members of the Higher Institute of doctoral study, a crowd of representatives of international institutions and Lebanese associations concerned with special needs and directors of hospitals and schools, official and private, in multiple medical and rehabilitation

Following the Lebanese national anthem, speeches were given to the Director General of RMC, Mr. Izzat Agha, HE Ms. Laila Solh Hamada, Dr Ayash, Ms. Hamati, UNICEF Representative and Mufti Al-Sha’ar, all focused on the importance of health and education to achieve comprehensive integration for people with special needs. To achieve it while seeking to secure avenues of assistance at various levels and concerted efforts among all stakeholders. Shields were given to each of Minister Hamada and Dr Ayash on the occasion of taking over the duties of the President of the Union of Arab Doctors.

The conference was also accompanied by the inauguration of the Mugs, community Garden, within the compound of RMC.

After the opening, a panel discussion entitled: “Monitoring Reality and Looking for the Future was organized by Dr. Ibrahim Abdullah with the participation of  Dr Omar Ayash, Ms. Hamati, UNICEF Representative Abeer Abi Khalil, Dr. Ahmed Hammoud and Mr. Agha.

In its workshops, the Conference raised the problem of the non-application of laws relating to persons with disabilities from health and education, and the related problems related to the formal school for the admission of persons with disabilities

The scientific lectures were divided into two axes:

The first theme is “Empowering persons with disabilities to live in an inclusive environment”.

The second theme is: “Inclusive education between the challenges of the present and future aspirations”.

On the sidelines of the conference, two workshops were held with Dr. John Kulik (UK) and the International Instructor for Interactive Board Mr. Mohamed Ghandour and Dr Houba BIBI to highlight the importance of interactive boards and artificial intelligence in the specialized education of persons with disabilities and about the Battery Developmental Assessment (BDA).

Finally, the recommendations of the conference were announced.

  • Develop a unified and comprehensive national strategy for all sectors providing services and programs for persons with disabilities, under the supervision of the National Authority for Disability Affairs and in coordination with relevant ministries and international organizations.
  • Accelerate the legislation of all laws in the House of Representatives in cooperation with the Government and apply them in public and local administrations in relation to the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
  • Urgent demand to issue decrees implementing it in accordance with law 220/2000 18 years after its content
  • Contribute to building a knowledge environment that assists people with disabilities to move towards inclusive inclusion and effective engagement in their community.
  • Seeking ways to develop the abilities of the special education teacher so that he will be abler to deal with people with disabilities in unconventional ways.
  • Work to activate the role of the family and society to have full awareness of the concept of disability through targeted awareness programs.
  • Find suitable means and aids that enable people with disabilities of all categories to develop their abilities and abilities in accordance with their preparations and how to employ them.
  • Benefit from national and international scientific research in the development of programs, methods and methods used in the integration, care and rehabilitation of persons with disabilities.
  • Provide the necessary facilities for the Lebanese University and private universities to open branches in the regions for specializations related to persons with disabilities.
